Finishing a triathlon is fun, healthy and a big achievement. Ironman is not just a physical contest; it is more of a mental game that requires focus, proper preparation and execution to reach the goal.
In order to finish the race, the training focuses into four categories namely efficiency, training, physical health and mental health. The efficiency can be best acquired with proper form and usage of the techniques during the race. One of its key component is body form as it determines the overall capacity of the racer. Strokes should be taken into considerations in swimming. In biking, back and the legs positioning is vital as it contributes to the effective pedalling. Body position should be checked in running and it is recommended not to land on toes or heels because it may tire the racer quite rapidly.
Of course, an appropriate training prior to the contest will greatly determine your fortune. Basically, it is composed of an 18-week training program with the first 12 weeks concentrates more on the endurance and overall physical conditioning in running, swimming and cycling. This includes a total of 66,500 yards of swimming, 1,175 miles of biking, and 2,230 minutes of running with walking. The last 6 weeks will focus on the speed and quality phase that requires mental focus. The training will only have a 2,7500 yards of practice swimming, 560 miles of biking, and a total of 1,085 minutes of running and walking.
Being physically healthy is also a prerequisite and it involves proper diet and nutrition, weight control and avoiding injuries. Every racer must have enough sleep to continue with the training and to have the much needed energy during the race.
Lastly, mental preparedness wraps it all with right amount of confidence and motivation. Although, it has its competitiveness side, finishing the race is already an accomplishment.
